COUNTY  WATERFORD

Southern Comfort

County Waterford is known also as Crystal County and that is what makes the county so famous and well worth a visit.  The Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre gives you the opportunity to see how this fine glasswarein made and, of course, to buy some. You might also enjoy a walk around Waterford City, I there are guided tours from the Quay that last about an hour and these will show you all the interesting and wonderful parts of the town. There is a Waterford to Dungarven narrow gauge railway line that will allow you to enjoy views of the Suir Valley. What better way to get a view of river and mountain from the comfort of a train and while relaxing and dreaming of days gone by.

There is much to explore in the County. If you are interested in history then the Harrison Megalithic Tomb, Ogham Stones, Ardmore Round Tower and Cathedral and also Mount Mellary Abbey will keep you occupied. If all this history sounds like hard work then don’t despair, for County Waterford has miles of Blue Flag beaches for you to enjoy. Try to visit the famous seaside resort of Tramore if you want a good beach.

Tramore also has a fun park and Splashworld so if it is a bit chilly you can enjoy indoor water fun. The coastline is pretty with individual and unique fishing villages and towns to explore. There are many excellent restaurants to discover which specialise in freshly caught fish dishes. The County is ideal for golfing, walking and cycling. Don’t forget to purchase some Waterford Crystal so that when you see it sparking in the light you will remember your wonderful stay in Ireland.
